TISS, Guwahati, often referred to as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, is a Considered to be University that was founded in 2010 by the Government of Assam and the Ministry of Department of North-East Region, Government of India, working together. In the presence of Mr. Ratan Tata, the former chairman of the Institute, Mr. Krishna Kumar, and the then-Assam chief minister, His Excellency Mr. Tarun Gogoi, lay the cornerstone for the TISS Guwahati Campus.

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates for the B.A. program must have passed the 10+2 exam in any stream from an accredited board.
- Candidates for the M.A. Program must submit proof of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in the relevant field.
- The institution also welcomes applications from candidates with relevant postgraduate degrees for research-level courses. Entrance to the same will be determined by a university-based entrance exam, which will be followed by a round of individual interviews and group discussions.
