Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science Admissions 2024-25

In Kolkata, West Bengal, there is an organization called the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science.The institute, which is affiliated with the University Grants Commission (UGC), is actively engaged in physics, chemistry, and chemical biology research. IACS provides an Integrated Master's and Ph.D. program in Biological Science (Int. M.Sc-Ph.D.), an Integrated Bachelor's and Master's program in Science (B.Sc. -M.Sc.), and a Ph.D. program. Admission to UG-PG and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programs is determined by the results of the institute's admission exam. Candidates must appear in the UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (UPST) for UG-PG programs, and the Master's Pre-Interview Screening Test (MPST) for International M.Sc.-Ph.D. programs. The interview round determines the ultimate choice.

Eligibility criteria
  • To be eligible for admission, candidates must have completed both the 10 and 10+2 levels with a least first division/60% marks (or 55% for reserved categories) or an equivalent grade.
  • Applicants who took the 10+2 test are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The qualified candidates must show up for the UPST, or UG Pre-Interview Screening Test, in order to be admitted to the program.
  • Multiple-choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and either Computer Science or Biological Science make up the UPST, an exam that is administered on a computer.
  • The exam will take place in a number of Indian cities.
  • The top 60 candidates will be chosen after those who pass the exam are offered an interview. 
  • KVPY Fellows and applicants with a JEE Main or NEET rank of up to 8000 would be approached directly for the interview round.
  • Ten seats are offered for such candidates, who are exempt from UPST.

  • A Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree with first class or 60% marks (or equivalent for Reserved categories) and first division in both the 10 and 10+2 levels is the minimum requirement for the program.
  • Students in their final year of study may also apply.

Selection criteria

  • Candidates must pass the institute's Master's Pre-Interview Screening Test in order to be admitted to the MS-Ph.D. program.
  • The MPST is an online exam that will be administered in several Indian cities. MCQs will be on the test.
  • Those who pass the exam are required to show up for the interview.
  • A maximum of thirty students will be selected for admission at each of the participating schools.

  • Additionally, students need to have passed the corresponding national level exams, such as the UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, and JEST.

  • Candidates are admitted to Ph.D. programs based on their academic standing and results in UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, and JEST.
  • Candidates who have been shortlisted will receive an email notifying them of their status and will be invited to a follow-up interview or written test.
  • Therefore, the results of the written test, interview, entrance exam, and academic record all factor into the ultimate decision.

Procedure of admission

  • Go to IACS's official website.
  • On the right side of the home page, click the UG-PG Admission link.
  • Select the "Online Application" link now.
  • Complete the registration form by entering your name, birthdate, phone number, and email address.
  • Candidates will receive their user ID and password on their registered email address and phone number, respectively, after completing the required fields.
  • Enter your login information to log in and complete the application.
  • Use net banking, a debit or credit card, or make the payment online.
  • The non-refundable fees are INR 600 for SC/ST/PWD candidates and INR 1200 for general category students.
  • Keep the information safe and make a copy of the properly completed application.
