In 2007, responding to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's
initiative, plans for IIITs were conceived to address the educational needs of
rural youth. Under the leadership of Prof. K.C. Reddy, a Task Force proposed

established as a university through legislative action in 2008, initially
