Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) was established under the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature Act No. 31 of 2008 by Late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. After the state's bifurcation, Chief Minister Sri. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy established a separate Architecture and Fine Arts University in Andhra Pradesh, known as Dr. YSR Architecture and Fine Arts University, Kadapa.

 The university, formed under the Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (Amendment) Act, 2019, consists of ten departments offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs through the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) and the College of Fine Arts (CFA). JNAFAU's focus is on human habitat and environment, and it continuously expands its academic programs and undertakes advisory projects to contribute to the functional and sustainable development of the built environment in Andhra Pradesh.
