The Government of Odisha launched IIIT Bhubaneswar, which was officially registered as a society in November 2006. The Government of Odisha converted the Institute into a University in January 2014. The primary B.Tech CSE program of University, which is provided for at least 4 years and is a fully residential curriculum, is well recognized. The B.Tech program, which has 300 seats available overall, is the premier 4-year degree offered by Univesity. University offers UG, graduate, and doctorate degrees in information technology and engineering.

The highest and average compensation for the 2023 University placements were INR 39 LPA and INR 13 LPA, respectively. A total of 285 offers were received for university placements in 2023. Among the top employers were Siemens Healthcare, Media.net, Oracle, Publicis Sapient, IBM, and others.

The following fields are included in the B.Tech curriculum offered by the institute: CSE, IT, CE, ETE, and EEE. Candidates are selected based on JEE Main CRL rank, with 50% of seats set aside for students from Odisha State and 50% for students from throughout India. Written exams, literature reviews, presentations, and interviews are used to select candidates.

A 2-year M.Tech degree in computer science and engineering is available from university, with specializations in computer networks, data science, computer vision & image processing, and information security.
