North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology Admissions 2024-25

University admission is based on an entrance exam, followed by institute-led counselling. The institute administers NEE entrance exams for entry to certificate and degree programs such as B.Tech, B.Tech (Lateral), B.Sc (Forestry), and Technology Certificate courses. The University application is submitted online. However, the University admission exam is administered offline at 16 various locations across the North Eastern states. 

  • For admission to B.Tech, University recognizes JEE Main and NEE-II scores, followed by University counseling.
  • University UG engineering programs are NBA-accredited.
  • University  PG degree programs include M.Tech, M.Sc, and MBA.
  • Students seeking PG admission at University  must first pass the institute's written test.
  • Candidates can apply for M.Tech and M.Sc degrees based on their GATE results.
  • Admission to the MBA program is also dependent on performance in the CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT, followed by GD/PI.

Admissions 2024 for  B.Tech/ B.Tech (Lateral) 

University offers B.Tech programs in 6 different engineering disciplines: Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Admission is based on the NERIST-conducted entrance exam NEE II. The institute also admits students with a valid JEE Main result, followed by university consultation.

University also provides B.Tech. (Lateral) courses. Candidates who have completed a 3-year diploma and obtained a valid NEE-III score are eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria  

To apply for B.Tech at University, candidates must meet the qualifying conditions listed below:

  • Passed Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Appeared/passed Higher Secondary equivalent (ITI/NERIST Certificate) or Class XII (Vocational stream).
  • The maximum age of applicants as of July 31, 2024 should not be more than 23 years (General), 26 years (OBC & female), or 28 years (ST/SC/PD).
  • Candidates for B.Tech Lateral Entry must have completed/passed 3-year diploma in a relevant discipline from a government-recognized polytechnic institute with at least 60%.
  • Applicants for B.Tech Lateral Entry must meet the age criteria established by University, which is that the maximum age as of July 31, 2024 shall not be more than 30 years (General)/ 33 years (OBC and Female).

Selection Criteria

Candidates must meet the following selection criteria for B.Tech and B.Tech (Lateral) admission at University:

  • Academic merit and achievement in entrance tests are used to determine selection.
  • For B.Tech, the individual must pass the NEE-II. Applicants with a valid JEE Main score may also apply.
  • For B.Tech (Lateral), the candidate must pass the NEE-III.
  • Shortlisted candidates must attend University counselling.

Admissions 2024 for B.Sc Forestry

University offers an unique 4-year B.Sc. in Forestry program. To apply for this course, candidates must have passed Class 12th with PCB. Admission is based on the NEE-II exam administered by university.


Eligibility Criteria

B.Sc. Forestry applicants must meet academic and age requirements to be considered for admission. Academically, aspirants must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The maximum age of applicants on July 31, 2024, should not be more than 23 years (General), 26 years (OBC & female), or 28 years (ST/SC/PD).

Selection Criteria

  • The selection process is based on academic merit and success in the university entrance exam.
  • Candidates must pass the NEE-II exam, followed by university counselling. 

Admissions 2024 for M.Tech Program

University offers M.Tech programs in 6 engineering fields. Admission is based on GATE scores or the institute's own written test. To be eligible for M.Tech admission, applicants must first complete a relevant B.Tech/B.E. degree.

Eligibility Criteria

  • M.Tech applicants must have a B.Tech. or equivalent degree with a CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 or an aggregate score of 60%.
  • Candidates from the SC/ST/PWD categories are eligible for a 5% exemption in the qualifying exam's aggregate score.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidates will be selected based on their genuine GATE results, followed by university counselling.
  • For those who have not taken GATE, a written test will be administered. 

Admissions 2024 for M.Sc Course

University provides M.Sc. programs in forestry, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Candidates for the M.Sc. Forestry program must have completed 4-year B.Sc. in Forestry with a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or 60% in aggregate. Candidates for other specializations must have completed a B.Sc. in the relevant discipline with an overall grade marks average of 55%.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates for M.Sc. Forestry must have completed 4-year B.Sc. in Forestry with a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale, or 60% in total.
  • Candidates for M.Sc in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics must have completed a B.Sc. in the relevant specialization with 55% overall (Pass Course) and 50% in the Major/Honours course.

Selection Criteria

The ultimate selection will be based on performance in the NERIST written test, followed by the institute's counselling procedure.

Admission 2024 for MBA Course

Admission to the MBA program at university is based on performance in national-level tests such as the CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT, followed by a GD/PI round. Candidates who have not previously taken any of these examinations must take the university admission exam.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline and an aggregate score of 55% (50% for SC/ST applicants).

Selection Criteria

  • The selection process will be based on performance in the CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT. Students who have not taken any of these exams must sit for a written test administered by university.
  • Group discussions/personal interviews are also an important aspect of the MBA selection process. Please keep in mind that the written test and group discussion/personal interview will be weighted at 75% and 25%, respectively.

Admissions 2024 for Ph.D. Program

University provides Ph.D. programs through all of its 11 academic departments and one Centre for Management Studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates with a Master's Degree in Engineering and Technology with 60% marks in aggregate or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale and 55% marks in aggregate in Sciences/Humanities and Social Sciences/Management for the General category are eligible.

Selection Criteria:

Candidates must pass the university Ph.D. admission exam, followed by an interview round.

University Admissions Process 2024

The University admission process is conducted online. For UG courses such as B.Tech and B.Sc. (Forestry), candidates must have completed Class 12th with science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology. To get admitted to PG courses such as MBA, M.Tech, and M.Sc, a candidate must have completed graduation in the relevant subject. University entry is based on the NEE entrance examinations, which are held in 3 phases for certificate and UG courses. 

  • The NEE-I exam consists of a single question paper of 150 marks that lasts 3 hours and is divided into three sections: Section A (Physics), Section B (Chemistry), and Section C (Mathematics). Candidates who appear in NEE-I (Paper Code 10) are eligible for admission to the Base (Certificate) Module of the Technology Stream.
  • The NEE-II consists of a single 150-mark question paper that lasts three hours. It includes two papers: NEE-II (PCM) for B.Tech candidates and NEE-II (PCB) for B.Sc. Forestry students.
  • Candidates seeking admission to B.Tech (Lateral) with an academic qualification of Diploma in the relevant branch/discipline must take the NEE-III exam. The NEE-III question paper is divided into 4 sections: A (Physics), B (Chemistry), C (Mathematics), and D (Branch Subject).

For PG courses, the candidate must take a written test administered by the institute. Candidates who have qualified for national exams such as GATE, CAT, MAT, XAT, and CMAT will be excused from the written test.

Application Fees: The University entrance test application fees is INR 1,500 for General/OBC/EWS category students and INR 1,000 for SC/ST/PD candidates.

University accepts reservations from North Eastern students. A candidate seeking / claiming admission against a seat in any of the categories must present the applicable certificate(s) at the time of counselling / admission. The categories are as follows.

Candidates from the 8 North Eastern states are eligible for a state-quota across India.-quota: For applicants from any of India's states.
PD-quota: For candidates with 40% to 75% physical loco-motor disability (PD) from any state in India.

Scholarships 2024 for University

The respective state and central governments normally grant stipends to SC/ST students in North Eastern states, at varied amounts. The North Eastern Council (NEC) also offers scholarships to regional students pursuing degrees and higher education. University students can also apply for several scholarship schemes based on their eligibility through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The continuation of the stipend/scholarship is subject to the following conditions.

  • Discipline at the Institute is consistent, and attends classes on a regular basis. Unauthorized absence from the Institute/Hostel is considered a lapse in discipline.
