SLBSRSV, now known as "Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University," was granted "deemed University" status by UGC in 1987. It was founded in 1962 in New Delhi as a Central Sanskrit University.

The 10th 5-year plan review Committee recognised SLBSRSV's continuing outstanding performance. SLBSRSV proposes understanding and protecting Shastric traditions in a modern context.

It offers 23 courses in 2 streams. It offers UG and PG courses, as well as M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs. It also provides part-time Certificate and Diploma courses to qualified individuals. It also offers opportunity for further study in Sanskrit's auxiliary components, such as Jyotish and Vastu.

University offers the following courses: BA, MA, B.Ed, M.Ed, M.Phil, and Ph.D., as well as diploma and certification courses.

University Collage Admissions

Admission to BA, MA, and M.Phil programs requires Common University Entrance Test (CUET) followed by an interview.

Candidate for Ph.D., B.Ed., and M.Ed. courses must have Masters' degree from a recognised university with minimum 55% marks. Admissions are based on the All India Combined Entrance Test, followed by a personal interview.
