IIT Gandhinagar admits students to around 59 courses through national-level entrance exams. Candidates wishing to enrol in the B.Tech degree must first pass the JEE Advanced test and then register for JoSAA counselling to secure a seat. The 1st-year course fees for the university B.Tech program are INR 2.29 lakh.
Aside from its main B.Tech degree, university also provides M.Tech, M.Sc, MA, and other courses. Admission to these courses is dependent on admission exam scores such as IIT JAM, GATE, and so on, followed by counselling. University conducts personal interviews for several courses as part of the final selection process. Candidates seeking admission to these courses must register for the appropriate entrance exams separately. University also provides Ph.D. programs in around 13 different specialisations. Aside from standard Ph.D., the institute also offers Start Early Ph.D. for students from IITs, NITs, and other top institutions. University Admission to Ph.D. and Start Early Ph.D. programs is based on a Department-Based Test, followed by Academic Performance, Work Experience, and an interview. GATE/NET/CSIR/UGC/SLET qualified candidates are also eligible for admission.
Admissions 2024 to B.Tech Program
University provides 4-year B.Tech degree in 6 specialisations, with 30 students in each. Admission to university B.Tech is done through JEE Advanced, followed by JoSAA counselling. The following are the specialisations available in B.Tech program.

- The qualified candidates must register for JoSAA Counselling, which will take conducted in 6 stages.
- During this counselling, applicants must fill out and lock their choices.
- Seats in each counselling round will be granted to those who meet IIT Gandhinagar's cutoffs.
- Applicants who meet the cutoffs will be considered for admission to the B.Tech program.
Admissions 2024 to M.Tech & PGDIIT
University admits students to its M.Tech and PGDIIT programs through a written test and an interview stage. Candidates are selected for the written and interview process based on their academic record and GATE score. All of the variables mentioned above, including academic record, GATE score, written test score, and interview performance, are considered in making the final decision.
Eligibility Criteria:
- B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with minimum 55% (50% for SC/ST).
Candidates must have a valid GATE score. - Aspirants applying for a part-time M.Tech or the PGDIIT program do not need to have a GATE score.
- Candidates who completed their B.Tech at IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 or higher are not required to have a GATE score.
Selection Criteria:
- Candidates must first take the GATE exam and achieve a high percentile score.
After passing the GATE exam, students are shortlisted for the written exam by the institute based on their GATE exam scores. - After completing the written exam, candidates are invited to an interview.
- A final merit list is then created based on the GATE exam score, written test results, and performance in the interview.

Admission to M.Tech Program
University has an Early Admit M.Tech program. This program is open to B.Tech students from selected colleges who meet the qualifying criteria listed below.
- B.Tech. students from NITs and other elite schools (who will graduate in 2022 or have already graduated in 2023) who are among the top 5 rank holders in the department at the end of their pre-final and final years.
- B.Tech. students from IITs (graduated in 2022 or 2023) with a CPI/CGPA of at least 6.0 at the end of their3rd and 4th years, respectively.
Such candidates are selected based on their academic record, written tests, and/or personal interviews.
Admission to PG Program
Aside from M.Tech, university also provides MA and M.Sc. at PG level. The M.Sc program is provided in 4 specialisations: Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Cognitive Science.
The Society and Culture discipline offers an M.A. program. Both M.A. and M.Sc. programs last 2 years.

- The IIT JAM exam is used to determine admission to the M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics program.
- Admission to the M.Sc. in Cognitive Science program is based on a written test and an interview conducted by university.

- Admission to IIT GN's MA degree is based on entrance exams and interviews.

University offers a full-time, residential Start Early Ph.D. Fellowship. This fellowship allows B.Tech students to get early admission to Ph.D. programs at university. The minimal eligibility requirements for this fellowship are as follows:
