University is located on the banks of the river Nila in Cheruthuruthy village, Thrissur District, Kalamandalam. It was established in 1930.

The Government of India recognizes the institute as the University of Art and Culture. The University provides 3-year full-time UG Bachelor of Arts degree in 14 different streams, as well as 2-year full-time postgraduate Master of Arts study in the same streams.

University additionally provides Doctorate integrated with the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy (M.Phil - Ph.D.).

The institute invites applications for admission to the Doctorate programme. Students holding PG degree in the required topics may apply for admission to the course.

Selection Criteria:

• Admission to the integrated M.Phil/Ph.D. and direct Ph.D. programs will be based on an entrance exam conducted by the University's Research Committee, which will involve written exam and an interview.
• UGC-JRF holders will be excused from the written test.
• The list of selected candidates will be displayed on campus or on the university's official website.
• The candidate must submit PG Degree and mark sheet along with the completed application form.
