Kumaun institution is a state institution of 160 acres that was founded in 1973. There are three campuses for the university. The D.S.B. Campus in Nainital, the SSJ Campus in Almora, and the Campus at Bhimtal are these campuses. Admissions in Kumaun university

All UG courses—aside from B.Ed. and LLB—are admitted on the basis of the results of the 10+2 test. Kumaun University Entrance Examination is used to determine admission to B.Ed. and LLB programs.

All postgraduate courses are admitted on the basis of a bachelor's degree's merit. The bachelor's degree needs to be from an accredited college. Kumaun University Entrance Exam is used to determine admission to M.Ed. and MBA programs. Selection for MBA programs is based either on merit or the results of entrance exams.

A minimum of 55% aggregate in a Master's degree from an accredited university is required for admission to Ph.D. programs. The Research Degree Entrance Test (RDET) is used for selection.
