The Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), previously known as the School of Buddhist Philosophy, holds an 'A' grade accreditation from NAAC, making it one of India's premier institutions for Buddhist Studies. The Institute distributes free textbooks and notes to all students, particularly benefiting those from remote areas and Scheduled Tribe communities. 

Students receive a monthly stipend, with 675 currently benefiting from amounts ranging from INR 820 to INR 1010. 

Additionally, stipends are extended to students of branch and feeder schools associated with CIBS. 

Annually, INR 161.62 lakhs is disbursed towards student stipends, merit scholarships, and research fellowships, ensuring continued support for student welfare and academic endeavors. 

Facilities at Campus 

The Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, situated in Choglamsar, 8 km south of Leh town, boasts two campuses: the old and the new. The old campus, spanning 23 Kanals, accommodates junior wing classes, while the new campus sprawls over 232 Kanals, featuring separate blocks for Teaching, Administration, Library, and Campus Residence. Hostels: Three distinct hostels cater to monks, male, and female students, each accommodating up to one hundred students. Additionally, the institute provides residential quarters for staff members and a guest house for visitors. 

Library: The computerized Library spans three floors and houses a diverse collection of 33,160 books covering various subjects. It also offers access to 51 annual Indian and foreign research journals/periodicals, alongside numerous magazines and newspapers in different languages. Notably, the library includes a specialized Tibetan section for the benefit of scholars. 

Museum: An exceptional archaeological Museum showcases a range of antiquities and regional artifacts, including both authentic relics and replicas sourced from historical sites across India.
