The Government of Bihar founded Aryabhatta Knowledge University, popularly known as AKU Patna, to construct and manage educational infrastructure for technical, medical, management, and allied professional education in the state.

It provides a variety of courses in technical, medical, and management disciplines with different specializations. The UG level courses include B.Tech., M.B.B.S., B.D.S., B.A.M.S., etc., whereas the PG level courses include M.Tech., M.S., M.D., M.B.A., M.Sc., etc. The university also provides Ph.D. degrees in a variety of research areas. 

University Admission to these courses is dependent on an admission exam administered by the university or on national-level exams. For the other courses, candidates are admitted entirely on the basis of their performance in the preceding qualifying exam.

Every year, the number of placements at university increases. In Placements 2021, around 60% of students were placed in the IT sector, with an average package of INR 3-4 LPA. The biggest remuneration package was INR 25 LPA in the IT field entirely.
