IIT Gandhinagar - Indian Institute of Technology

IIT Gandhinagar is a public technical university, established in 2008 and is designated as an Institution of National Importance by the GOI. IIT Gandhinagar's 400-acre campus is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River in Palaj, Gandhinagar. IITG boasts that its campus is India's first 5-star GRIHA LD (Green) campus, reducing the harmful influence on the environment. It provides 50 engineering, math, cognitive science, humanities, and social science courses. According to the NIRF 2023 rating, it is rated 18th among the top engineering institutes in India.

IIT Gandhinagar B.Tech is primary program, with admissions based on JEE Advanced rank, followed by JoSAA Counselling. The minimum cutoff for a seat at university is 1534–1555. The first-year price for IIT Gandhinagar's BTech degree is INR 2.29 lakh. Candidates with a good GATE score can apply for MTech admission through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP).

Admissions at University

Admission to more than 59 disciplines at university is based on national-level entrance test. Admission to the B.Tech program requires passing the JEE Advanced exam and registering for JoSAA counselling to determine their seat allotment. IIT Gandhinagar's B.Tech CSE cutoff for the general category spans from 1416 to 3260. 

Aside from the flagship B.Tech degree, universiyty provides various courses such as M.Tech, M.Sc, MA, etc. Admission to these courses is based on admission tests such as IIT JAM and GATE, followed by counselling. University also conducts personal interviews for some courses. Once the entrance exam results are out, students can apply for admission on IIT Gandhinagar's official website.

University also provides Ph.D. programs in around 13 different specialisations. Aside from standard Ph.D., the institute also offers Start Early Ph.D. for students from IITs, NITs, and other the best institutions. Admission is based on a departmental test, followed by academic performance, work experience, and an interview. Candidates who have passed the GATE/NET/CSIR/UGC/SLET exams are also eligible for admission.

University Placement 2023 for UG programs is concluded. Total 164 B.Tech students applied for the placement drive, and 125 of them were placed. The placement percentage was 76.22%.

Campus Life and Events of University

University's permanent campus is roughly divided into 3 sections: Academic Block, Housing Block, and Student Hostel. University organises various events and festivals to increase student exposure. University hosts Amalthea, India's first annual technical summit organised by students, and Blithchron, 2-day cultural event. IITGN conducts Hallabol, an all-night intra-institute sports festival.

 The student housing comprises 6 hostel buildings that may accommodate UG and graduate students. Each building can accommodate around 200 students and has a common reading area and a hostel library. The dining area features a central café with outdoor seating, 2 separate mess halls, and a common dining facility for all students.

Scholarships for Students

There are various scholarships offered at university for students. Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar Scholarship. University provides MCM Scholarship and New Merit Scholarship to applicants based on the following criteria:

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship of INR 1000/- per month for meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar has announced new merit scholarships for Indian students who excel in academics, athletics, arts, culture, social work, and leadership. This scholarship differs from merit-based scholarships in that it will be awarded only based on achievements in the related professions.

All SC/ST students whose parents' annual income does not exceed INR 4,50,000 are eligible for free basic meals and a pocket money of INR 250. This scholarship is given to the students who achieve the highest CPI in their respective fields each year.
