Admissions at University

Admission to Ph.D., Integrated Ph.D., MS (by Research), M.Sc Chemistry, and PG Diploma programs is available through university. Ph.D. and MS by Research admissions are determined by GATE/GPAT/JEST/UGC NET/ICMR JRF/DBT JRF results, which are then followed by an institute-conducted interview. However, admission to the Integrated Ph.D. program is determined by a written exam conducted by university and an interview that follows. The application process, which consist 2 steps, begins in February. Candidates must first register and confirm their email address, and then they must complete the application form in 2nd stage. Admission to University's PG Diploma program begins in June, and candidates are selected on the basis of their performance on the qualifying exam.

Application Procedure:

Applicants can apply online through the University's official website for admission to university. The non-refundable application fee is INR 500, and it must be paid with a credit card, debit card, or NET banking. To complete the application procedure, take the following actions:

  • Provide your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, qualifications, and other information on the application form.
  • Pay the INR 500 registration cost and upload the required documents.
  • Additionally, at the time of counseling, take a printout of the application form so that it may be verified with the original documents. 

Scholarships for Students:

Scholarships or fellowships that cover tuition and living expenses, including hostel fees and other fees, are awarded to all students accepted into the Center's programs. Students can also apply for fellowships and loans from the college. The following is the notional scholarship package:

  • Summer Research Fellowship: The Department of Science and Technology, which is supported by the Indian government, grants 2-month summer fellowships to students through university. In addition to receiving travel expenses and monthly stipend of INR 10,000, students are paired with research groups at university or with experts outside.
  • Fellowship Programs: In accordance with government regulations, doctoral students will get a JRF/SRF of INR 31,000 per month for the first two years and INR 35,000 per month for the following three.
  • In addition to a monthly stipend of INR 31,000, MS by Research and MS by Engineering students are eligible for one-time travel award of up to INR 40,000 to attend national and international conferences.
  • For the first 2 years, integrated Ph.D. students receive Rs. 19,000; for the 3rd and 4th years, they receive Rs. 31,000; and for the 5th, 6th, and 7th years, they receive Rs. 35,000.

Facilities at University

Library: The JNCASR library is well-stocked, housing 9,662 books and providing access to approximately 4,000 scientific journals. The library continues to acquire, organize, and disseminate information resources to meet the needs of teachers, students, and researchers. The library also provides document delivery, inter-library loan, current awareness, and bibliometric research services. From 2019 to 2020, 95 new books were added, while 167 new journal subscriptions were bought. Furthermore, 77 new patrons joined the library, increasing amny current patrons to 699.


Gym:  The Center has established gym facilities for both students and residential staff, complete with modern equipment and apparel. A certified gym instructor is also assigned to help students in performing fitness activities effectively. The multi-gym room has a 10-station multi-gym, Power Tower, bench press, multi-purpose bench press, Twister, ab rollers, dumbbells weighing 1.5 kg to 25 kg, steel weight plates and rods, a music system, and RO water.


Hostels: The Jawahar Students Hostel on the IISc Gymkhana Campus has 15 rooms for visiting students. The daily lodging charge for Centre Students is Rs 100 per person.


Workshops: The AMRL Block workshop features a machining center capable of turning, phasing, boring, and threading operations. The tabletop 4 access CNC Milling Machine will help with sheet work for soft materials cutting and other related tasks, as well as 3D printing using CAD design from research labs. Additionally, tool grinding, drilling, and minor fabrication work can be completed here.
