The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences, also known as NIMHANS, is an autonomous university in Bangalore, Karnataka that was established in 1974. The Government of India recognized NIMHANS a "Institute of National Importance" in 2012. The UGC granted the institute 'Deemed to be University' status in 1994. NIMHANS offers various UG, graduate, and doctorate programs in mental health and neuroscience. Admission to all courses is determined by the results of the institute's own admission exam.
