Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) is the first university specialized to fisheries and related fields. It was established by the Kerala government in 2010. It is self-governing and publicly supported entity with its headquarters in Panangad, Kochi. The University provides UG, graduate, and doctoral programs in Fisheries Science. It also provides PG diploma in aquarium science and technology, as well as diploma in brackish water and marine aquaculture. The selection criteria for various courses are determined by the results of an annual admission exam.

Admission at University

Candidates who look for admission here must complete the application form in the approved format. The University conducts entrance exams for many courses. It does, however, consider other entrance examinations such as KEAM, NEET-UG, CAT, and CMAT for admitting students to UG and PG degrees. Students can apply for up to 5 programmes at once, but if they want to apply for more, they must pay additional fees.

Application Procedure:

• Visit the university's official website. 
• Click on Admission Option under the Admission Tab.
• A new tab will open, and you will need to register by generating a user ID and password.
• After registering, log in to your account with the same user ID and password.
• After you log in, fill out the application form with required information and save it concurrently.
• Now you must select desired courses, select your category where applicable, and upload supporting papers.
• Last but not least, submit your application form and make the required payments.
• Now print out the application form for future reference.

Placement to University

A university placement cell ensures the highest amount of placements for undergraduate and graduate students. Alumni of the university work for various international and national academic research and industrial organizations.

It has the distinction of producing many Agricultural Research Scientists for the country. Many officers in the Central and State Fisheries Departments are university alumni. It produced many entrepreneurs, professionals, and scientists in the fields of food technology, oceanography, management, maritime law, fish processing, aquaculture, hatchery, and ornamental fishing.

Facilities at University

Library-  The library is well-equipped with latest devices. There are over 19000 books, including 2000 reference books and 17000 textbooks on fisheries and related disciplines.

Museum-  The institution maintains a museum for fish, crustaceans, molluscs, aquatic plants, and parasitic fish, as well as a public freshwater tank.

Swimming Pool-   The University's campus includes a large swimming pool with a capacity of 4.5 lakh gallons of water.

Hostel-   University provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls on campus. The hostel is properly equipped with the facilities required for a healthy stay. The boys' hostel can accommodate up to 60 students and has 2 guest rooms. The girls hostel can house up to 133 students.

Computer Facilities-   The University has a well-equipped computer lab financed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The lab is fully computer-equipped, with all PCs connected through Local Area Network (LAN).
