The institution of Calicut, often known as Calicut University, is the largest institution in Kerala. It was established in 1968 and has received 'A' grade from NAAC. University has 34 PG departments and 406 affiliated institutions. The university provides around 3000 courses at UG, graduate, and doctoral levels through its many colleges. University also provides distant learning programs through its School of distant Education (SDE). University ranks 70 in the university category and 101-150 in the overall category, according to the NIRF 2023 rankings.

 Calicut University Distance Education offers 26 programs, including 14 UG courses and 12 graduate courses. University admissions are based on a centralized admission process (CAP). University admissions are based on qualifying exam scores and national-level assessments such as JEE Main or CAT/KMAT for BTech and MBA programs. It also conducts the CUCAT for admission to PG programs. Admission to University SDE depends only on qualifying exam scores.
