The 3rd-oldest school in India is Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute in Pune. It was established in 1821 and offers prospective students M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees. While admission to master's degree and Ph.D. programs is determined by an entrance exam conducted by the college, admission to M.A. degree programs is determined by the scores obtained on the qualifying exam. Candidates with valid NET, SET, M.Phil, or JRF scores The Institute's Research Entrance Test is not subject to entrance exams.

Depending on the course level, the admissions process is often either merit-based or involves an entrance exam. For most courses, applicants must have at least 55% marks, and then they must take an entrance exam (only for Ph.D. and M.Phil students). Candidates who fall under the SC, ST, or PH categories are entitled to 5% reduction in the minimum score needed.

Facilities at University

Hostel:   Both boys' and girls' hostels are available, with 54 and 45 rooms, respectively. 2 new apartment buildings for the non-teaching personnel have recently been built.
Library:    One of the best examples of a research library at the national and international levels is the Deccan College Library, which specializes in archaeology, linguistics, and Sanskrit and has a distinctive collection in these areas.
Museum:   The university's 2 well-equipped museums include one dedicated to Indian archaeology, which strives to educate students about Ancient Indian history, culture, and archaeology while presenting a selection of the human past's cultural artifacts. 2nd is Maratha history, which includes significant documents from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Cafeteria:   Students and visitors are served in the college's 2 on-campus canteens.
Gymkhana:    The institution has a gym where staff and students can engage in cultural and recreational activities, such as playing indoor games like chess, badminton, and carom and outdoor games like football, cricket, and so on. Additionally, it hosts many cultural events, such as debating contests, musical performances, and lectures.
Labs:    By providing a comfortable physical environment for the faculty, the university's well-equipped archeological and computer-assisted language labs support in doing basic research.
