In 1930, the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) was established by the Servants of India Community. The oldest economics research and training organization is GIPE. The college offers courses in economics and politics at UG, graduate, and doctoral levels. All courses have entry requirements. Additionally, the college has many facilities for students, and its teaching members are well qualified and experienced.

For admission to B.Sc., MA, M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs, candidates must take an entrance exam. After passing the entrance exam, candidates will be invited for an interview. Additionally, candidates who qualify for the UGC-NET (including JRF) or SLET Teacher Fellowship and who have M.Phil. degree from an accredited university through conventional, not distant learning, will not be required to take the institute's admission exam, but they will still need to show for an interview.
