One of the new IITs established in 2010 as an Institution of National Importance is NIT Meghalaya. At the moment, university operates from its makeshift location in Shillong. The construction of NIT Meghalaya's permanent campus is underway in Cherapunji. NIT Meghalaya is ranked 72nd out of all Indian engineering institutes in the NIRF Ranking 2023. At PG level, it also offers PhD, M.Sc., and M.Tech programs.
