The Chief Minister of Odisha, Prajnana Vachaspati Sj. Janaki Ballabh Pattanayak, an eminent Sanskrit scholar, established the Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya (SJSV) On July 7, 1981 in the holy land of Lord Jagannath. Prathama, Upashastri, Madhyama, Shastri, and Acharya are among the 142 Sanskrit institutions in the state, which include 5 Mahavidyalayas and 137 Vidyalayas and Pathshalas. throughout this Vishvavidyalaya. After Kameswar Singh Sanskrit University of Darabhanga and Sampurnananda Sanskrit University of Benaras, it is the 3rd Sanskit University in the nation.

Centre of Advance Research in Sanskrit (CARS):
With an admirable objective of preserving, safeguarding, and advancing the ancient culture and legacy of Sanskrit literature, Vishvavidyalaya was established. To attain exceptional research quality, the government funded 15.00 lakh rupees to operate the research center, which was renamed the "Centre of Advance Research in Sanskrit" (CARS). To far, CARS has regularly released 33 books and 13 volumes of research journals under the title "Jagannath Jyoti."
